I left Saintes today, parting ways with the pilgrim I had been walking with for the past few days. She chose a route that follows the coast, while I continued on my own path.
Before leaving, I visited the crypt where Saint Eutrope’s tomb is located.
The trail markers in Charente-Maritime are excellent and easy to follow—except, of course, when I decide to take the GR655 instead lol.
Along the way, I stopped at several small town halls to collect extra stamps for my Compostela.
By the afternoon, I was walking in just a t-shirt, which says a lot about how nice the weather was today.
I took a pleasant break in Saint-Léger, where I found an open rest area for pilgrims.
Tonight, I’m staying in Pons, a medieval town with a large donjon—though, to me, it just looks like a big tower haha. Unfortunately, visits aren’t open yet.
I’ll be spending the night near an old pilgrim hospital, which is now closed. Apparently, they used to display the medical tools once used to treat pilgrims, but from what I’ve heard, those treatments probably did more harm than good!
J’ai quitté Saintes aujourd’hui, me séparant de la pèlerine avec qui j’avais marché ces derniers jours. Elle a choisi un itinéraire qui suit la côte, tandis que j’ai poursuivi mon propre chemin.
Avant de partir, j’ai visité la crypte où se trouve la tombe de Saint Eutrope.
Le balisage des sentiers en Charente-Maritime est excellent et facile à suivre—sauf, bien sûr, quand je décide de prendre le GR655 à la place lol.
En chemin, je me suis arrêté dans plusieurs petites mairies pour collecter des tampons supplémentaires sur ma Compostela.
L’après-midi, je marchais en simple t-shirt, ce qui en dit long sur la douceur du temps aujourd’hui.
J’ai fait une pause agréable à Saint-Léger, où j’ai trouvé une salle ouverte pour les pèlerins.
Ce soir, je dors à Pons, une ville médiévale avec un grand donjon—même si, pour moi, ça ressemble juste à une grande tour haha. Malheureusement, les visites ne sont pas encore ouvertes.
Je passe la nuit près d’un ancien hôpital pour pèlerins, aujourd’hui fermé. Apparemment, ils y exposaient les outils médicaux utilisés autrefois pour soigner les pèlerins, mais d’après ce que j’ai entendu, ces traitements faisaient probablement plus de mal que de bien !
