Day 58 / Jour 58 Hospital de Órbigo

I left the hotel a bit later than on previous days, after enjoying a good breakfast.

Leaving León, I chose a secondary route to avoid the national road. It helped me stay away from traffic, but I didn’t pass through many towns along the way.

In the afternoon, my nephew Aquilaël messaged me to ask if I had been affected by the power outages in Spain. I told him that so far, I hadn’t noticed anything.

It was only when I arrived in Hospital de Órbigo that I realized there was an issue: I had no internet on my phone, and the ATMs were out of service.

I was still able to access the albergue and got to know Colombe and Rémy, two French pilgrims who left from Le Puy 50 days ago. I told them about Meredith, a pilgrim who left the Paris region around the same time I did but whom I haven’t met yet. As it turns out, they met her! She arrived in León today after being a bit unwell. Maybe I’ll finally get the chance to meet her later on.

The electricity and internet came back the next morning.

Je suis parti de l’hôtel un peu plus tard que les jours précédents, après avoir profité d’un bon petit déjeuner.

En quittant León, j’ai choisi un itinéraire secondaire pour éviter la route nationale, ce qui m’a permis d’éviter la circulation, mais j’ai traversé peu de villages en chemin.

Dans l’après-midi, mon neveu Aquilaël m’a envoyé un message pour savoir si j’étais concerné par les coupures de courant en Espagne. Je lui ai répondu que je n’avais rien remarqué jusqu’à présent.

C’est seulement en arrivant à Hospital de Órbigo que j’ai réalisé l’ampleur du problème : plus d’internet sur mon téléphone, et les distributeurs automatiques étaient hors service.

J’ai tout de même pu accéder à l’auberge, où j’ai fait la connaissance de Colombe et Rémy, un couple de Français partis du Puy-en-Velay il y a 50 jours. Je leur ai parlé de Meredith, cette pèlerine partie de la région parisienne en même temps que moi, que je n’ai encore jamais croisée. Et surprise : ils l’ont rencontrée ! Elle est arrivée à León aujourd’hui, après avoir été un peu malade. Peut-être aurai-je enfin l’occasion de la rencontrer.

Le courant et la connexion sont revenus le lendemain matin.
