  • Day 21 / Jour 21 Villefollet

Yesterday, I felt pain in my left thigh, so I adjusted my plans for the next two nights, adding a stop to reduce walking.

I left the goat farm at a relaxed pace, and the walk to Villefollet was pleasant.

Along the way, I visited Saint-Hilary Church in Melle (79) and Saint-Romans Church in Saint-Romans-lĂšs-Melle. Both churches show signs of their connection to the Saint James’ Way pilgrimage.

Near Saint-Laurent Church, I caught up with a pilgrim I had met in Poitiers.

We both ended up staying at the same place for the night.

  • Day 20 / Jour 20 Sepvret

The sky was cloudy with a little rain, but I still enjoyed it.

Due to the weather, I didn’t take many pictures. Like yesterday, I didn’t pass through many towns.

I was really happy to end up at a farm, where I got to feed some baby goats and watch how goat milk is collected.

  • Day 19 / Jour 19 Lusignan

I left Poitiers this morning, heading toward Lusignan.

The scenery was beautiful, though I didn’t pass through many towns along the way.

I did, however, get to see the Abbey Church of the Augustinian Friars and the small Church of Notre-Dame in Coulombiers.

In the forest near Lusignan, I came across a group of people gathering leaves—they were harvesting wild garlic.

In Lusignan, near my accommodation for the night, I found a Khachkar, a traditional Armenian stone cross. This monument was a gift from the Armenian people to the city of Lusignan in honor of Leo V of Lusignan, the last king of Armenia. The city displays it as a tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide of 1915.

  • Day 18 / Jour 18 Poitiers (again !)

I stayed in Poitiers today while waiting for a package from my family and some thoughtful gifts from a supportive friend 🙂

Inside the package, I received my insulin refill (with needles) along with an insulated bag to keep it cold. There was also a sleeping bag, mainly for the upcoming part of my journey in Spain, as well as replacement tips for my walking stick—the old ones wore out in just two weeks, with the metal core already sticking out! Additionally, I got a laundry bag and a shampoo bar that doubles as a face and body wash.

In the morning, I took a short walk around the city, then treated myself to a long nap after lunch, lol.

  • Day 17 / Jour 17 Poitiers

The walk from ChĂątellerault to Poitiers followed an old Roman route under a sunny sky.

Along the way, I passed an archaeological site of ancient Poitiers.

On the path, I came across a piece of fabric with a knot in it that seemed to have been dropped recently, so I picked it up. I asked the walkers I met if it belonged to them, but no one claimed it.

Later, when I arrived at my place for the night, I met a pilgrim who had started her journey from Tours—and it turned out the fabric was hers!

  • Day 16 / Jour 16 ChĂątellerault

I had a good night’s sleep with a kind host who gave me some helpful directions for traveling through Vienne (Department 86).

The weather was pleasant, with the sun making a shy appearance in the afternoon.

My sister shared some great news—Misty (my cat) started sleeping in her son’s room this weekend and then moved to her bedroom. I’m happy to know she’s getting along well with the family.

ChĂątellerault is a lovely town, with a charming downtown area that offers plenty of space for pedestrians.

Inside Saint-James Church, there is a beautiful wooden representation of James the Apostle.

  • Day 15 / Jour 15 Les Ormes

It was a rainy start today, with a chilly 2°C when I set off.

I’m still feeling great and enjoying the walk! 🙂

Last night’s host had a pilgrim song, which I took a picture of (see below).

With the weather being what it was, I expected to be alone, but I did have some curious company—ducks and cows seemed quite intrigued by me, haha.

I’ve now entered the French department of « La Vienne » and will be spending the night in « Les Ormes. »

  • Day 14 / Jour 14 Sainte-Maure de Touraine

The sky today was completely white, with no clouds in sight.

The walk was mostly flat, passing alongside agricultural fields.

The Fortress of Montbazon was closed to visitors, but I was able to take some pictures from the outside.

I passed through Saint-Catherine-de-Fierbois, a town famous for its connection to Joan of Arc. Here, she discovered an ancient sword buried behind the altar of the Chapel of Sainte-Catherine—a relic from the Hundred Years’ War. With this sword, she led the French to victory, reclaiming OrlĂ©ans and defeating the surrounding English forts.

Tonight, I’m staying in Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine, a town that has welcomed many historic figures, including King Henry IV, D’Artagnan (the Musketeer), and King Louis XIV.

  • Day 13 / Jour 13 VeignĂ©

    March 14th, 2025

I had a wonderful time with my hosts, a retired couple who welcome pilgrims into their home. Their place is just a few meters from the path.

Vouvray is where both branches of the Via Turonensis meet—one coming from Chartres and the other from OrlĂ©ans.

I took a short walk from Vouvray to Tours along the banks of the Loire River. Many trees are already in bloom, making the scenery even more beautiful. To enter Tours, I crossed the Loire. Some say the weather is always better on the southern side of the river—though I’m not sure if that’s true!

The Cathedral of Saint Gatien in Tours is absolutely majestic. Mostly built in the Gothic style, its construction spanned several centuries, from 1170 to 1547.

Tonight, I’m staying in VeignĂ© in a room provided by the town hall.

    14 mars 2025

  • Day 12 / Jour 12 – Vouvray

Before leaving this morning, I had the chance to visit the water mill. I didn’t see it in action, but I know it works.

The walk through the Touraine region, surrounded by vineyard fields, was lovely.

There were a few drops of rain, but nothing too serious.

Tonight, I’m staying in Vouvray, east of Tours, which I’ll be passing through tomorrow.

I haven’t found a place to stay for tomorrow night yet, but it should be fine—God is with me! 🙂

Funny story: This morning, I took a wrong turn (the signs aren’t great), and just as I did, someone opened their window to adjust their shutters. The guy called out, “Wrong turn, buddy!” and I immediately knew he was talking to me. I thanked him, corrected my path, and had a good laugh !
